The Beauty Notes

Build a simple skincare routine

Cleanse, moisturise and protect. Start with the essentials, then choose your extras.

Begin with three essentials

A routine does not need a long list of products. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends a simple foundation: cleansing, moisturising and protecting your skin.

  1. Cleanse: choose a cleanser that feels comfortable on your skin.
  2. Moisturise: pick a texture you enjoy using, whether that is a light lotion or a richer cream.
  3. Protect: include sunscreen in your daytime routine and follow its directions for application and reapplication.

Choose extras with a purpose

Once you have a manageable foundation, decide what you want an additional product to do. A serum, toner or mask is an optional step—not a requirement to complete the routine. You can keep products you already enjoy rather than replacing everything at once.
