The Beauty Notes
Choosing makeup for acne-prone skin
What to look for on the label, plus the everyday habits that matter.
Start with the label
Look for “non-comedogenic”, “won’t clog pores” or “oil-free” on makeup. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends these labels when choosing products for acne-prone skin.
Vegan and cruelty free describe different product attributes; they are not a promise that a formula will suit every acne-prone complexion.
Keep application gentle
Use a light touch rather than rubbing makeup into the skin. Wash brushes weekly, keep tools for your own use and remove makeup before bed, followed by a gentle cleanse. Avoid scrubbing to get skin feeling extra clean.
Make your next choice easier
Check individual product descriptions and ingredients before choosing a base. Need help comparing textures or finishes? Send us the product names on WhatsApp.
